چکیده

Salmonid embryos depend on the adequate flow of oxygenated water to survive and interstitial passageways to emerge from the gravel bed. Spawning gravels are initially cleaned by the spawning female, but sediment transported during subsequent high-runoff events can nfiltrate the porous substrate. In many gravel-bed channels used for spawning, most of the infiltrating sediment consists of sand and fine gravel that fall by the force of gravity through the framework of bed particles once the sediment enters the streambed. The sediment comes to rest on the tops of large particles or lodges in pores created by bed particles in mutual contact. We present a model that simulates the descent and deposition of heterogeneous spheres (sediment) into successive layers of a bed of heterogeneous spheres. Individual sedimentary particles may lodge or pass through a pore depending on its diameter relative to those of the bed particles creating the pore. As sediment lodges in each layer, the particle-size distribution of the layer is updated to give a new population of pores through which the next group of sedimentary particles attempts to infiltrate. Transformations of percentile-by-weight distributions are used in the simulation both to generate random sediment particles and to simulate pores in the bed. Results using particle-size distributions from a natural channel show vertical variations in amount and particle size of infiltrating sediment. Top layers accumulate large amounts of relatively coarse sediment, middle layers accumulate little sediment, and bottom layers accumulate large amounts of fine sediment. This agrees qualitatively with direct measurements of sediment infiltration in this channel. Simulations using other arbitrary distributions show that the total volume, depth, and particle-size distribution of infiltrating sediment vary with the particle-size distribution of the sediment and streambed.

A Data-driven Method for Crowd Simulation using a Holonification Model

In this paper, we present a data-driven method for crowd simulation with holonification model. With this extra module, the accuracy of simulation will increase and it generates more realistic behaviors of agents. First, we show how to use the concept of holon in crowd simulation and how effective it is. For this reason, we use simple rules for holonification. Using real-world data, we model the...

OPTIMIZATION-BASED MONITORING-SUPPORTED CALIBRATION OF A THERMAL PERFORMANCE SIMULATION MODEL

Building performance simulation is being increasingly deployed beyond the building design phase to support efficient building operation. Specifically, the predictive feature of the simulation-assisted building systems control strategy provides distinct advantages in view of building systems with high latency and inertia. Such advantages can be exploited only if model predictions can be relied u...

Improving Simulation Accuracy of a Downsized Turbocharged SI Engine by Developing a Predictive Combustion Model in 1D Simulation Software

In this paper we aim to develop a predictive combustion model for a turbocharged engine in GT-Power software to better simulate engine characteristics and study its behavior under variety of conditions. Experimental data from combustion was initially being used for modelling combustion in software and these data were used for model calibration and result validation. EF7-TC engine was chosen for...

A Multi-Physics Simulation Model Based on Finite Element Method for the Multi-Layer Switched Reluctance Motor

Using ANSYS finite element (FE) package, a multi-physics simulation model based on finite element method (FEM) is introduced for the multi-layer switched reluctance motor (SRM) in the present paper. The simulation model is created totally in ANSYS parametric design language (APDL) as a parametric model usable for various conventional types of this motor and it is included electromagnetic, therm...

Application of perfect mixing model for simulation of vertical roller mills

Vertical roller mills (VRMs) are well-established grinding equipment for various tasks in the coal and cement industry. There are few studies on simulation of VRMs. In this research work, application of perfect mixing model for simulation of a VRM in a cement grinding plant was investigated. Two sampling surveys were carried out on the VRM circuit. The samples and data from the first survey wer...
